I wish to thank all of you for the opportunity and having enough faith in me to elect me as your Grand Knight. I hope I can do as fine a job as our past Grand Knight, Frank Joseph, and if you’ll indulge me, I will do my best to duplicate his efforts.

I attended Deacon Mark Walters’ Ceremony and Father Shockley’s ordination this past Saturday, in Lafayette on June 6th. We were represented by five knights as Color Guards from K of C Council 11044. This is a very special event both impressive and spiritual. We would like to see more of our brothers attend this special ceremony, you will not be disappointed. Next year, there will be separate masses for the Deacons and Ordi-nation to the priesthood. Our diocese will have four priests ordained, as well as several deacons. Please plan to attend next year and support our young men called to serve God and our family.

At the Sunday, June 7th 12:30 Mass, Fr. Shockley celebrated his first mass with a full church of well wishers, family, and friends. We had the honor of seeing Fr. Shockley present the cloths from the holy oils to his mother and stepmother. The tradition is believed to mean when Chris’ mother goes to God at the end of her life on earth, Christ will tell her he gave His son to her, and she will answer that she also gave her son to God. Gifts were also presented to his father and grandmother.

Following Mass the Color Guards (eight in all) escorted Fr. Shockley to his appreciation luncheon. At that time a chalice was presented from the 4th Degree Knights to Paul Lundsford in honor of his deceased father Harlin. Paul in return presented this chalice to Father Shockley. Each time the chalice is used it will be in memory of our deceased brother, Harlan.

I wish to thank all the brother Knights who helped set up, serve, and clean the hall used for the luncheons, for both Deacon Mark and Father Shockley.
